Hello travelers! How are you? Today we came to talk about one of our typical costumes, that of the Madeira archipelago. We hope you enjoy!
The traditional costume of Madeira is thought to have Minho, Moorish, African and Flanders influences. Its diversity is verified at the level of the Female Costume, having dozens of variations, while the Male Costume only differs in two ways.
Clothing changed according to marital status in the case of women. The married woman wore a black skirt and cape, with red stripes and a colorful apron. It was common for women to wear the skirt inside out at home and wear it on the right side when going out.
