Old Greece typical costume
1. ChlamysThis garment was the ancient Greek version of the modern cloak. Made of a rectangular piece of wool material the size of a blanket, it was used by attaching a fibula to the right shoulder.
2. Chiton
This garment was popularly worn by men and women in ancient Greece as a sleeveless shirt, and was at the height of its popularity from the archaic period (750-500 BC).
3. Peplos
This full body garment was the most common garment for women in ancient Greece. Somewhere in the middle of the classical era, around 500 BC, it was in fact the most popular piece of clothing for women.
4. Himation
This particular piece of clothing appeared around the 6th century BC.
5. Nudity
A curiosity perhaps unknown to many, nudity was quite common in ancient Greece.
6. Sandals
The footwear dates back much further than the ancient Greeks. While versatile and elegant options began to appear in the late Middle Ages, shoes from ancient Greece were largely utilitarian. This type of footwear was used up to about 1000 AD.
7. Hair
A characteristic of ancient Greek dress is the lack of a hat. The only exception is the decoration of the flowers, which the girls used to decorate their hairstyles.
New Greece typical costume
Greece's transition to Christianity has influenced not only the religious life of the population, but also the local fashion. The national dress of men became a suit. It was more common to see at festivals, including weddings.
The women's costume also differentiates between them. This traditional costume was inspired by the Goddess Olympa, they only added colours to it. Also added was the massive headdress decorated with tassels and heavy monists.
